Concrete Creativism

This unique precast concrete cantilevered home is the result of the combined imaginations of Nicole Bartels (former General Manager of Hanson Precast) and Tom Simmat. Located in Leura, in the Blue Mountains of NSW, the house has 1200mm cantilevered eaves and edge beams, infilled polish concrete, and 'hydronically' heated slabs. Steel and concrete piers were placed with exact precision, allowing the construction of the floor and walls to float atop the sloping site.

This Blue Mountains builder project features floating fireplaces, a four-level hardwood internal staircase, and an abundance of thermal mass for a comfortable mountain climate. Glass Flamezone walls and windows encase the building, which is built over five split levels to fit the topography of the land. Nicole, the proud owner of the home, is finishing the detailed construction to make her dream a reality.
